Android 4.1 Jelly Bean – brief overview, features, supported devices, released date

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Preview

Google I/O 2012 – The new Android version has been announced and it is officially called Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. This new version is not a major upgrade compared to the transition from Android 2.3 to Android 4.0 but rather the Android 4.1 is just a refinement of the awesome Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with much integrated Google services.

Jelly Bean UI is much improved. It is “fast, fluid and smooth” thanks to the triple buffering in the graphics pipleline. In the demo from Google I/O the Galaxy Nexus running on Jelly Bean has a higher frame rate compared to the same machine with Ice Cream Sandwich.

Google Now is a new integrated system. It makes Android device a lot smarter. It can detect traffic when you live home and can suggest alternate routes. If you happen to be a in certain place Google Now will suggest any good restaurants and their best recipes. This is great improvement to the Google Places that we knew. Google Now also also offers real-time sport score updates. This will be make third-party sport apps obsolete.

Android Jelly Bean also features ‘Offline Voice Typing‘, you no longer connected to the cloud because the A.I is already on your device unlike Siri and other voice assistant. It is available in 18 major languages including Arab, Hebrew and Persian.

Notification is one of the most vital feature of a Smartphone and Android Jelly Bean did some great improvements on this part. The Gmail Notification now includes unread email preview better to be updated on our emails. Google+ is also integrated to the system as you can now +1 or share photos from Google+ with out entering the Google+ App. It also offers encryption to the apps when you download it from Play Store, according to the Verge is a way to combat Android app piracy.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will be avaiable this July as OTA ‘over the air’ update on the following devices: Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S and Xoom. As to OEM update stay tuned!
