Engineer Guy: How Acceleronometer works in smartphones

How Acceleronomet Works Engineer Guy

We all always ask this “How stuff works?”. It reminds me of my childhood days when I always dismantled my toys to see how it works. Today’s modern toys are getting complex mostly driven by IC or Integrated Circuits. Integrated circuits are the brain of todays electronic devices and smart devices. For example a smartphone, is a smart device because basically it is wireless, connected to a communication network i.e. the Internet, Cellular Network with Geo-Location and packed with Sensors.

One feature of a smartphone or tablet is the Accelerometer sensor. The most basic function of this sensor in our smartphone or tablet is it changes the orientation of our screen display. If we want to go portrait or landscape in reading our favourite articles, during email or sms and even in playing our favourite games like Doodle Jump but you ever wonder how it works?

Bill Hammack of the University of Illonois a.k.a The Engineer Guy explained and demonstrated the basic construction and function of the Accelerometer. He explained how accelerometer is constructed using Silicon etching and the mechanical version of Acceleronometer. For Bill Hammack this sensor is one of the coolest part of our smartphone and definitely agree to that.

Trivia: Acceleronometer Chip is only 5 cents.
