Yes! We all know that Apple’s iPhone 5 was officially announced but our friends from Google also announced another Android milestone. Google Android operating system has reached more than 500 million devices activated. Google Chief for Google Mobile Andy Rubin tweeted:

“there have been a half a billion Android activations to date, with over 1.3m added every day.”

What is Android activation?

This is the first time an Android device is turned on and when connected it will register to Google. This does not include the wiping or flashing a new ROM. Google has a mechanism on how to detect newly activated device and to date there are more than 500-million devices running Android 70,000 of this are Tablet.

To see the progress of Android daily activation, these are the previous lists.

  • September: 1.3 – million
  • June: 900,000
  • February: 850, 000
  • December: 700,000

This shows that Android is well received and the demand for Android powered devices is high – leading the steps against its main competitor namely the iOS, Blackberry and the Windows Phone Mobile devices.
