Android market started its humble beginning with around 500 apps. Since its opening in 2008 it grew to the extent that it will mostly likely to over take iOS app downloads at the end of this year. The number of download will be around 8.1 billion compared to around 6-Billion for the iOS. The success of Android app development is Android’s Open source in nature. Developers around the world took took this advantage of developing app for free with a touch of adding there own advertisements and others sells premium app for a reasonable price.

Another factor to the success of the Android market is the number of Android units around the world. As of writing, there are around 200M+ Android devices both smartphones and Tablets. This number of devices keeps on growing everyday. The data by the good guys of Cricket is only for Google Android Market. It does not include app plublishers like AppBrain and Amazon App store.
