In line with Samsung’s unveiling of the revamped Galaxy Note, the largest of its line also received some changes as it was seen in the company’s Unpacked 2013 event.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition, much like the Note 3 will have a massive 3GB RAM and an upgraded screen resolution, bumping it to 2560×1600 pixels or 299ppi. Long Term Evolution (LTE) will also be incorporated in the 2014 Edition of the Galaxy Note 10.1.

The Korean based powerhouse also gave the Note 10.1 a faux-leather back cover and again, just like the Note 3. In all, the Galaxy Note 10.1 is the steroid version of the Note 3 (aren’t they all icon biggrin Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition, Gear also unveiled )

Also revealed during the event is the partner in crime of both the Note 3 and the Note 10.1 2014 Edition, the Galaxy Gear.

First and foremost, the Galaxy Gear is a watch, but not just an ordinary watch: Samsung equipped the Gear with a camera and is made out of stainless steel. The strap is an unknown material but is flexible enough to support the entire gadget.

On a single charge, the Galaxy Gear can give the user 25 hours and with sensors detecting “hand signals and waves during operation”.

The Galaxy Gear, when it comes out (probably by October also) will be available in six colorways: Jet Black, Mocha Gray, Wild Orange, Oatmeal Beige, Rose Gold, and Lime Green and will shed $299 off your wallet.

Expect the Note 10.1 to be out by September 25 and will be available globally by October.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is delayed because of Ice Cream Sandwich/android-news/samsung-galaxy-tab-2-delayed-ice-cream-sandwich/ /android-news/samsung-galaxy-tab-2-delayed-ice-cream-sandwich/#comments Wed, 04 Apr 2012 15:01:46 +0000 Pinoy Android /?p=2675 galaxy tab 2 10 1 Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is delayed because of Ice Cream Sandwich

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7 and 10.1) is the upcoming ICS Tablet  from Samsung. This was announced last February and expected to be released last March but its already April and no Tab 2 on market shelves. The reason for the delay of the Galaxy Tab 2 is the Ice Cream Sandwich. Samsung and Google is working closely to make the Galaxy Tab 2 to work well with ICS operating system. The Galaxy Tab 2 will be available at the end of April in UK.
Samsung faced  delays in the release of ICS on their Android phones. It started with the promise that the Galaxy Note ICS upgrade in Q1 and now it is moved to Q2. The ICS upgrade for Galaxy S II is currently available for the International version (I9100) and carrier variants are still waiting for their specified update because carrier branded S II needs more scrutiny from the carriers.

Comparing Android Tablets to the “all new Apple iPad” – specs, connectivity and price/android-tablets/compare-android-tablets-apple-ipad/ /android-tablets/compare-android-tablets-apple-ipad/#comments Fri, 09 Mar 2012 04:31:54 +0000 Pinoy Android /?p=2489 The new iPad is out and this is the first Apple device to  be compatible with LTE connectivity. If you compare the “all new iPad”  to current Android tablets like the Asus Transformer Prime, Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, and Kindle Fire the only advantage I see is the display resolution as it uses Retina display of very high resolution.  See for yourself if you are convinced that the new iPad is the real king of tablets.

Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab wont get Android 4.0 ICS upgrade/android-phone/galaxy-galaxy-tab-wont-android-40-ics-upgrade/ /android-phone/galaxy-galaxy-tab-wont-android-40-ics-upgrade/#comments Sat, 24 Dec 2011 03:30:56 +0000 Pinoy Android /?p=2123 ics galaxy tab s Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab wont get Android 4.0 ICS upgrade This is not a good news to almost 10-million Galaxy S owners. Samsung dropped the support for Galaxy S (GT-I9000)  and Galaxy Tab (P-series)  Android 4.0 ICS upgrade. The reason why Samsung will not upgrade the Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab to Android 4 is that the system has no extra space for TouchWiz UI, Carrier Addition and Video application.

TouchWiz UI is Samsung’s proprietary user interface on top of Android default UI. If Samsung can’t provide upgrade for Galaxy S, CyanogenMod will. CyanogenMod  is developing the CM9 that is based on Android 4 and the Galaxy S is included in their portfolio.
So lets hope that the CM9 for Galaxy S will be stable enough.

This is part of Android evolution that not all Android device is capable of running newer OS and also part of their marketing plans.

Samsung Galaxy SII, Galaxy Note and Galaxy Tabs will get Android 4.0 update/firmware-updates/samsung-galaxy-sii-galaxy-note-galaxy-tabs-android-40-update/ /firmware-updates/samsung-galaxy-sii-galaxy-note-galaxy-tabs-android-40-update/#comments Fri, 28 Oct 2011 15:44:25 +0000 Pinoy Android /?p=1879 Samsung Galaxy SII Ice Cream Sandwich Samsung Galaxy SII, Galaxy Note and Galaxy Tabs will get Android 4.0 updateAndroid enthusiasts are eager to have an experience with the feature rich Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” and question that everyone is asking, “when it will be available to other devices?”. We all know that the first Android 4.0 device is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and will due out this November 17.  Also HTC and Sony Ericsson already gave their respective statements about their upgrade plans.

Now, Italian blog HD Blog reports that the Samsung Galaxy S II  Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update is coming in the second quarter of 2012 (May, June, and July).  Aside from the Galaxy S 2Samsung Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9, Tab 7.7, and Tab 7.0 will also get an ICS upgrade.

Bad news for Galaxy S and other Galaxy phones like the Ace for not being included in the upgrade. Samsung is using its own user interface TouchWiz UI and assessing if the pre 2011 devices can run the new Android OS.

Samsung files patent complaint against Apple in France/android-news/samsung-files-patent-complaint-apple-france/ /android-news/samsung-files-patent-complaint-apple-france/#comments Tue, 13 Sep 2011 15:52:11 +0000 Pinoy Android /?p=1502 samsung vs apple Samsung files patent complaint against Apple in FranceParis, France – Samsung  Electronics filed a lawsuit against Apple Company claiming that Apple infringed three mobile technology patents. The patent lawsuit is related to Apple’s use of UMTS Technologies in their iPhone and iPad. There is no concern about any design patent  but use of UMTS also known as 3G.

The devices included in the complaint are the iPhone 3G, 3Gs, iPhone 4, iPad and iPad 2 3G version respectively. According to Samsung’s spokesperson explained that the “complaint focuses on three technology patents, and not on the design of the tablets,”. Recently a German court banned the release of Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1″ over design lawsuit filed by Apple.

September 24, another lawsuit battle in Netherlands resulted in banning of three Samsung smartphone and again because of design lawsuit filed by Apple. Samsung then filed a counter claim last September 26.

The patent war between Samsung and Apple is going world-wide. There are lawsuits filed in the U.S., Australia and in Asia. In Korea, Samsung filed a complaint to ban Apple products sale in South Korea.

Back in April where it all began when Apple filed a lawsuit stating that Samsung is copying smartphone and tablet design. This issue is centered in Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S2 and now the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Both smartphone and tablet from Samsung are selling very well and I think this lawsuit is trying to slow down by denying countries to sell the Samsung devices.

What do you think about this patent war between Samsung and Apple?

Galaxy Note with 5.5inch display and Galaxy Tab 7.7/android-tablets/galaxy-note-55inch-display-galaxy-tab-77/ /android-tablets/galaxy-note-55inch-display-galaxy-tab-77/#comments Thu, 01 Sep 2011 17:40:39 +0000 Pinoy Android /?p=1488 IFA 2011 Berlin, Germany – Samsung unveiled two new Android devices one is a smartphone and one is a Tablet. The Samsung Galaxy Note is a smartphone with 5.5 inch display at 1200×800 pixels.

Samsung Galaxy Note Galaxy Note with 5.5inch display and Galaxy Tab 7.7

Samsung Galaxy Note

A new Galaxy Tab is also added to the Tab family as well, the new Galaxy Tab 7.7. Yes! a   7.7 inch display, smaller compared to older brother 8.9 and 10.1 respectively. Both units are powered by a 1.4Ghz dual core processor, 1GB of RAM. The key difference is in the operating system and connectivity.

Galaxy Note Tab Galaxy Note with 5.5inch display and Galaxy Tab 7.7

The Galaxy Note has Android 2.3 Gingerbread and the Galaxy Tab 7.7 has Android 3.2 Honeycomb. The Galaxy Note is in the crossroad between the normal smartphone with common max size of 4.3inch and the a Tablet at 7-inches. The battery for the Galaxy Note is 2500 mAh battery, and 9.65mm thick while the Galaxy Tab 7.7 has 5400mAh at 7.89mm thick.

The Samsung new Android devices well also cater both 4G technologies namely the LTE and HSPA+ Networks. This is a good strategy considering both technologies are commonly used in carriers worldwide. Some carriers will use LTE and other will use the HSPA+. For example here in the Philippines, Globe uses HSPA+ and Smart Communications uses LTE. With this kind of strategy both carriers can serve this new Samsung devices.

The 5.5-inch display for the Galaxy Note in my opinion is quite big for a smartphone but I guess some users prefer larger display.
