Google defended HTC against Apple lawsuit – preventing monopoly of iOS in the US
The patent lawsuit that Apple filed against HTC last March 2011 because of the use of Android operating system. Unlike Samsung lawsuit filed in France, this case between Apple and HTC is all about the software side. Google stepped in in the case and gave HTC some patents to defend itself and Google is speaking out to a trade panel about HTC and gave the reason not to ban HTC from selling its product in the US. The ITC can ban any products found guilty of patent infringement.
Google had this to say,
“Apple is the largest seller of mobile computing devices in the U.S. Allowing this supplier to eliminate the competition from a fast-moving maverick competitor (HTC) could drive up prices, diminish service, decrease consumers’ access to the technology and reduce innovation.”
HTC Android devices is the third largest in the US and Google is trying to protect it by insuring that Apple is not monopolizing the industry . Google also pointed out the lawsuits filed by Apple to both Samsung and Motorola. Apple recently successful in blocking the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 to be sold in Germany and Samsung in Netherlands.
The trade commission’s verdict will be announce in Dec. 6. Everyone is hoping that the six member commission will side for public interests.
