Google and Globe Telecom Philippines recently launched their new service called ‘FREE ZONE’. Free Zone is service to access Google Products like, Email, Search and Social Networking (Google+) for Free using feature phones.
Features phones are not smartphone like iPhone and Android powered devices, these are basic phones with just SMS-Call Features and Internet connectivity via WAP/GPRS and others with WIFI and 3G.
Google Free Zone works by adding free-layer service enabling users to access Google for Free and also all websites produced by Google Search Result is also free but any access to website outside of Google Index would prompt carrier subscription invitation. Google will profit on ADS at search result and more likely the services you are using will be paid by Google.
This Free Zone is really a big help especially for students who do research especially the website being indexed by Google can be accessed for Free. This will listen cost on their part. With 4/5 mobile phones in the Philippines are silll features phones this will boost carrier profit from Google and Google will also benefit on the project by extending their advertisement market. I think this is a win-win for both subscribers and carriers. The Philippines will be the first to use this service and more like other countries with huge market share of features phones will be targeted aswell countries like India and the South Americas.
