HTC to completely acquire S3 Graphics for 270 patents

It was reported before that HTC bought VIA stakes in S3 Graphics for $300-million and today HTC announced that they are finalizing the deal to completely acquire S3 Graphics. This acquisition will add 270 patents to HTC’s potfolio. In its annual shareholder’s meeting HTC general counsel Grace Lei labeled the S3 portfolio as “valid and strong” following the “cautious assessment.”

Aside from patent catalogue, S3 Graphics will help HTC in improving their graphics. Apple and HTC are still in patent wars with this numbers of patent to be handed to HTC this will be a good shield from Apple lawsuits. Apple is one of the company in the world that can customized its processors and graphics for their own needs.  If HTC has S3 Graphics also they can make their own graphics processors even their own system-on-a-chip.
