Every month Google release the statics of Android versions installed on every Android devices around the world. The most active Android operating system during July-August is Android 2.3 – 2.3.7 Gingerbread at 60.6% followed by Android 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich at 15.9%. The legacy OS from Android 1.5 to Android 2.1 is slowly vanishing in the circulation from 0.2% (Android 1.5) to Android 2.1 Éclair at 4.2%.
There is a great leap in the share of Android Ice Cream Sandwich in the circulation thanks to upgrade from Android 2.3 to Android 4.0.4 devices. Other factor I think helped in the increase of ICS usage is the use of custom ICS ROM and newer devices are being released to the market is now running ICS out of the box on both smartphone and tablet.
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is in early infancy and few devices are getting the official update mainly the pure Google devices like Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S. In the coming months expect slow increase in the JB share because many of the Android 2.3 devices can’t be updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
