Samsung – Microsoft patent sharing agreement because of Android IP issues

Samsung OfficeIt is now clear is to what the main reason why Samsung settled in a patent sharing agreement with Microsoft  in the Android operating system. That is Samsung is trying to be on top of the smartphone and tablet market and currently Apple is the biggest competitor as it lost its confidence with Google’s way of handling patent lawsuits. As we all know that lawsuits are filed left and right against Android and it is hurting OEM’s to do business.

Samsung entered into an agreement wiping the slate clean in order to lead Apple where both Samsung and Microsoft are sharing. As previously reported Samsung will be making Microsoft Mobile OS based smartphone and will pay a whooping $180 million dollar annually for royalty fees as part of the deal.

Microsoft also grab the opportunity to give comments on Google’s reaction for the patent deal, according to Google; the patent deal like that of Samsung and Microsoft is helping software innovation as Android as a free software.

We recognize that some businesses and commentators – Google chief among them – have complained about the potential impact of patents on Android and software innovation. To them, we say this: look at today’s announcement. If industry leaders such as Samsung and HTC can enter into these agreements, doesn’t this provide a clear path forward?

Samsung official also give some comment on Google’s acquisition of Motorola mobility recently. The acquisition was supported by many Android OEM as they believe that it will help Android in fighting the lawsuits.

“If Samsung truly believed that Google’s takeover of Motorola Mobility was going to be helpful to the entire Android eco-system at large, it would have waited until that deal was closed before concluding the license agreement with Microsoft.

Samsung knows it can’t rely on Google. We’ve decided to address Android IP issues on our own.’’

In the recent lawsuit filed by Cuppertino based Apple Inc., that resulted in the denial of Galaxy Tab tablet to be sold in Germany, Netherlands and also Apple filed a lawsuit in France.

Samsung as the largest smartphone seller by volume is trying to be on top and take a lead against Apple and put personal sacrifices as they settled patent agreement with Microsoft. We can’t also deny that Android is a money maker for Samsung and now it is protecting itself against lawsuits filed by its competitors.
